MARTINSBURG — Eugene Stanley “Gene” Hauger, 87, of Martinsburg, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Country Court Nursing Center following a courageous battle with declining health.

He was born May 24, 1924, in Clay Township, son of the late Burgess and Virtie (Hildebrand) Hauger. Gene retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation with 30 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Martinsburg Church of Christ. Gene was a World War II Army veteran having served in the European Theatre.

Gene is survived by his wife, Patarica (LeMay) Hauger; son, Leonard (Mary Beth) Hauger of Columbus; a daughter, Brenda Kay Rhodes of East Greenwich, R.I.; grandchildren, Theresa (Jorge) Rios, Brad (Joudi) Rhodes and Tyler Hauger; great-grandchildren, Tony and Jokab Rios; nieces, Dorothy Joy, Betty Hawk and Lois Warner; and nephews, Harold Hauger, Tom Rine and Larry Rine.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Ava Frye; and brothers, Roy, Bill, Almon and Lawrence Hauger.

The family will have a private service at a later date.
