MOUNT VERNON — Florence Porter Gordon, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Dec. 24, 2011, at Country Court Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Howard to the late Thomas J. and Vina D. (Earnest) Porter.
Florence was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she had been active in the quilting club. Florence was also a former hospital auxiliary volunteer. She retired from Cooper Energy Service as a secretary and was still involved with the Cooper Girls Club.
Florence is survived by a stepdaughter, Ruthie (Larry) Hastie; sister-in-law, Goldie Wheldon; brother-in-law, Marvin Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James White; second husband, Kenneth Gordon; and six brothers, Earnest, Cecil, Dwight, Clarence, Harold and Arlo Porter.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Florence will be held Friday at 12 noon at the First Congregation United Church of Christ. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the memorial service. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Gordon family.
