CRESCENT CITY, Fla. — William “Bill” Clever Sr., 94 of Crescent City, Fla., formerly of Fredericktown, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka, Fla.
Bill was born May 20, 1917, in Bellville to Arthur and Florence (Hoverstick) Clever and graduated from Bellville High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Bill was a resident of Fredericktown most of his lifetime, and owned and operated Clever Lumber in Mount Vernon for several years. After his retirement, Bill moved to Lakeland, Fla., and later to Crescent City, Fla. He had been an active member of the Palmyra Church of Christ while he lived in Fredericktown.
Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Luwana and William Woodward of Crescent City, Fla.; grandchildren, Bryan (Jodi) Clever, Tara Clever and Bradley (Robin) Clever; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Norma Jean Connor of Virginia Beach, Va.
Bill was preceded in death by first wife, Leona Clever; second wife, Mae Clever; son, William Clever II; grandson, Russell Clever; brothers, Martin Clever, Donald Clever and Dale Clever; and sister, Martha Bucher.
Friends may call Friday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ. Burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
