MOUNT VERNON — Willie “Bill” Lutts Jr., 65, of Fairview Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to the late W.L. “Buss” and Dovie (Unger) Lutts. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), receiving a B.S. degree in physics in 1969. Following graduation, he returned to Dallas where he worked at Texas Instruments for several years as a research engineer in the infrared detector area. He then became interested in industrial health and safety, and worked as a loss prevention specialist and safety engineer for the Gulf Insurance Corp., the Frito-Lay Co., and Liberty Mutual Insurance. In 1999, he relocated to Columbus, where he was the information technology manager at the Science and Technology Campus Corp. at The Ohio State University (Scitech) until his retirement in 2004. Bill was widely read, and an encyclopedic reference on any subject. He was active in the online gaming community, and had many friends around the world.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Jones of Dallas, Texas; and very special friends, Ora (Sue) Smith of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his half brother.

There will be no calling hours. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
