MOUNT VERNON — Janet E. Heaton, 71, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 27, 1940, in Mount Vernon, daughter of the late Kenneth and Lucy (Dickenson) Fowler. Janet was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon. She was a 4-H Advisor for nine years. Janet was on the Hot Shots Bowling League in Ohio and was on the PPG Bowling League while she lived in Texas. She enjoyed growing flowers, going boating, fishing and camping. Janet loved to spend time with family and friends.

Janet is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roger D. Heaton; son, Donald L. (fiancée, Mitzi Karr) Heaton of York, Pa.; daughters, Debra L. (Philip) Spangler of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Dianna L. (Gratton) Sparks of York, Pa.; grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Briana, Ryan, Taylor, Ashley, Glade and Grant; great-granddaughter, Ariana; sister, Carolyn Carpenter of Mount Vernon; brothers, Jim Fowler of Mount Vernon, William Fowler of Fredericktown and Tom Fowler of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Patsy Chase of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m. The Rev. William Fulda officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery near Mount Vernon.
