FREDERICKTOWN — Richard G. Doup, 72, of Fredericktown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Nov. 9, 1939, in Mount Vernon, and was the son to the late Homer L. and Mildred I. (Buckingham) Doup. Richard attended the First Church of God in Fredericktown. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was an accomplished engineer. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge. He loved his family, especially taking great joy in his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Conkling) Doup; daughters, Anita L. Doup of Fredericktown and Suzanne M. Mackey of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a son, Michael R. (Meghan) Doup of Lakewood; stepsons, Steven Chesser of Dallas, Texas, and Greg Chesser of Fredericktown; sister, Phyllis Jean (George) Fowler of Gambier; brothers, Larry (Diana) Doup of Mount Vernon and Chuck (Robin) Doup of Newark; eight grandchildren, Connor, Ripley, Liam, Caleb, Elizabeth, Lily, Chelsea and Kayla; eight nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and nephews.

Richard’s first wife, Bonnie Doup, preceded him in death.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at Colonial City Moose Lodge, 417 W. High St., Mount Vernon, from 1 to 4 p.m. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Doup family.
