MOUNT VERNON — Coreta C. Deringer, 102, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

She was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Knox County and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Sadie (Cunningham) Harris. Coreta was a member of the Newark Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hess of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Ashlie (Lafe) Brownfield of New Albany; a great-granddaughter, Jillian Brownfield; sister, Elaine (Maurice) Glibert of Williamstown, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Ruth Harris of Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Willis Deringer; sisters, Avarilla Gossett and Marie Lyon; brother, Robert Elwin Harris; and a nephew, Richard Harris, preceded her in death.

Private family burial will take place in North Liberty Cemetery this spring. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Coreta C. Deringer family.
