MOUNT VERNON — Don W. Morrison, 94, of Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1917, in Gambier to the late Frank and Emma (Hunter) Morrison. Don was a 1935 graduate of Gambier High School. He was employed and retired from the Ohio State Highway Department as a Bridge Superintendent after 37 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95 Mount Vernon, the Gambier Knights of Pythias, the Pleasant Grange and the Gambier Fishing Club. Don was a previous member of the Harcourt Parrish Episcopal Church and a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon since the early 1960s. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of War. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Ruth (Lucas) Morrison; his daughter, Sherre (Steven) Packard of Columbus; his grandson, Steve (Deanna) Packard of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Hough, Ethel Wyant and Marion Fawcett.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Keith Stuart officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be held in Mound View Cemetery.
