MOUNT VERNON — Harry E. Ketzell Sr., 96, of Johnstown Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1915, in Sardis to the late William Henry and Ethel Jane (Stewart) Ketzell. Harry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1977 after 38 years of employment with Continental Can in Mount Vernon. Harry will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Sarah Ellen (Ritchey) Ketzell; a son, Harry (Carol) Ketzell Jr. of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Ethel Page of Mount Vernon and Jean (Mearl) Byers of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Ketzell and Earl Ketzell; six sisters, Roletta Ketzell, Grace Ketzell, Alice Ketzell, Mary Longacre, Madeline White and Ruth Levengood.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Mr. Leroy Bumpus will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Friendship Cemetery.
