MANSFIELD — Virginia Mae Hanawalt, 93, of Mansfield, passed away Jan. 12, 2012, in Alterra Sterling House.

Virginia was born Aug. 24, 1918, in Jeromesville, the daughter of Clyde and Hilda (Raubenolt) Austen. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Mansfield and Mansfield Gospel Assembly.

Surviving are sons, Larry (Ellen) Hanawalt of Colorado and Ron (Rose) Hanawalt of Mansfield; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde (Leona) Austen of Bellville; numerous nieces, nephews.

Preceded in death by husband, Grant Hanawalt, whom she married Jan. 27, 1940; four sisters, Paulene Austen, Avalon Pickworth, Norma Austen, Esther Starner.

A memorial service will be Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Johnny Heckard and Pastor Dan Baer will officiate. Interment will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
