ONTARIO — Frederick G. Rice, 84, of Ontario, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at his residence.

Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Danville, he was the son of John G. and Lola D. Rice. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Fred was a former Ontario High School teacher. He was a self-taught portrait artist and loved to read his King James Bible.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Rice of Mount Vernon; stepson, Neal (Chris) Pfaff of Columbus; and numerous extended family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, M. Ruth Rice; sisters, Lenore Rice, Josephine Weakley and Lucille Mondron; and brother, Ty Rice.

Friends may call Monday, Jan. 23, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will follow at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park.
