Richard Atkinson, 71, of Newark, passed away Jan. 20, 2012, at Heath Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Martinsburg to the late Harold and Agnes (McCament) Atkinson.

He graduated from Utica High School in 1958. Richard was a United States Army Veteran and had been previously employed by Walker Manufacturing and by Rolls Royce.

He is survived by two daughters, Lori Atkinson of Munich, Germany and Tracy (Michael) Tolliver of Dayton; one son, Troy (Darcey) Atkinson of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Devon Tolliver, Connor Tolliver, Jacob Tolliver, Addisyn Atkinson and Ainsley Atkinson; former wife, Bonnie Atkinson of Nelsonville; five brothers, Ronald (Alice) Atkinson of Chardon, Randall (Margaret) Atkinson of Utica, Russell (Cyndi) Atkinson of Martinsburg, Robert (Patricia) Atkinson of Columbus and Rodney Atkinson of Coshocton.

Friends may call Monday, Jan. 23, at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, from 5 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Fowls officiating. The family will observe a private burial.
