FREDERICKTOWN — Dewey Garven Jr., 87, of Fredericktown, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 22, 2012, at MedCentral in Mansfield. He was born June 5, 1924, in Zanesville, son of the late Eara Dewey and Catherine Sara (Evans) Garven Sr.
Dewey was member of First Church of God in Fredericktown. Dewey was a retired glass worker for PPG and he enjoyed woodworking.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Sandra (Hartwell) Body Garven; daughters, Brenda (Daniel) Roberts and Karen (Kenneth) Neighbarger of Mount Vernon; a stepson, Jack (Melissa) Body of Fredericktown; a stepdaughter, Jan Lashley of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Rachel, Douglas (Deb), Melissa (Ty), and Malinda; stepgrandchildren, Crystal, Eric, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Lauren, Kylee, Nate, and Jordan; stepgreat-grandchildren, Arana, Kyra, Makayla, and Zack; brothers, George, Melvin, Mike, Don, Joel, and Raymond; sisters, Vickie and Alice; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Garven; a son, Wayne Garven; a brother, Dan Garven; and a sister, Sara Catherine Stagger.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, until the time of a funeral service at 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Richard Prater officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Church of God in Fredericktown.
