MARENGO — James M. Young, 91, longtime resident of Marengo, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Bennington Glen Care Center in Marengo.

He was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Clendenin, W.Va., to the late Philip and Virginia (Hayes) Young. He was a graduate of Marengo High School in 1938, and it was there where he met his childhood sweetheart, Martha Carsner. Soon after graduation, Martha became his beloved wife and companion of 71 years. After they were married, Jim was called to duty and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, together they raised their family, built a home, business, and experienced the joys and trials of life as members of the Greatest Generation.

He owned and operated James Young Trucking until his son purchased the business, after which he continued to drive and fully retired at the age of 85. He logged endless miles and hauled countless loads for his loyal customers who more importantly were his friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Martha; son, Jim R. (Vickie) Young of Marengo; daughter, Marsha (Jerry) White of Westerville; grandchildren, Brad Young, Tracy (Jennifer) White, Jennifer (Ben) Catlett, Jill (Matt) Hunter; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Noel Young of Marengo.

He was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Marengo Cemetery.
