FREDERICKTOWN — Mary Furnis, 80, of Old Mansfield Road, Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 18, 1931, in Clinton County, Ohio, to the late Jacob and Jeanetta (Briggs) Burton. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by four sons, Mike (Alice) Furnis of Bellville, David (Debbie) Furnis of Coshocton, Chuck Furnis of Fredericktown and John (Tina) Furnis of Texas; a daughter, Valerie (Herman) Tharp-Shelton of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia (James) Tharp of Fredericktown.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell “Wendy” Furnis; six brothers, Harold Burton, Paul Burton, Virgil Burton, Donald Burton, Charles Burton and Robert Burton; and a sister, Anna Ferriman.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, where friends may call two hours prior. Pastor Joe Overholt will be officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery near Mount Vernon.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
