CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Dan Hose, 78, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Hubbard house Hospice in Charleston, W.Va.
Dan was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Danville, Ohio, to the late Carl and Nellie (Taylor) Hose. Dan was a retired sports editor, having worked as sports editor for the Marietta, Ohio, Times and the Parkersburg, W.Va., Times, as well as the Charleston Daily Mail. He then became a newsman for United Press International and covered West Virginia University football for nearly 40 years. Dan was a member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ, where he served as elder for over 35 years. He was an Army veteran, having served in Panama.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy; a son, Mark (Vickie) Hose; three daughters, Danene (Doug) Hartley, Brenda Newberry and Patty (Mark) Landes; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruthie (Norm) Blauser and Reba McKee.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul; grandson, Zachary Landes; three brothers, Dale, Donald and Duane; and two sisters, Creta Hose and Florence Mizer Near.
Memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 3, in Charleston, W.Va.
The Good Shepherd Mortuary in South Charleston was in charge of arrangements.
