CENTERBURG — Paul E. Richardson, 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at his home in Centerburg.

He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Columbus, to the late Elmer George and Tavy Mae (Benjamin) Richardson. A Centerburg resident for over 50 years, Paul retired as a greenskeeper from the Mount Vernon Country Club after 52 years and could cut grass better than anyone.

Quiet and reserved, Paul was always friendly to anyone who spoke to him first. He enjoyed fairs, especially the Hartford Fair and the Centerburg Farm Festival. A simple man, Paul was never without a dog since rescuing his dog Pooch from an old fence on his property years ago.

He is survived by his sons, Tom (Kathy) Richardson of St. Paul, Minn. and Paul “Butch” Richardson Jr., of Delaware; daughters, Becky Howard of Grove City, Crystal (Dave) Smith-Claar of Centerburg, Vickie (Charles) Trahan of Ontario, Canada; sisters, Hazel Miller of Florida and Mildred (Wayne) Anderson of Indiana; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two nieces and two cousins.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his son, Terry Lee Richardson.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, Sunday, Feb. 12, with a funeral service following immediately thereafter, officiated by the Rev. David Jackson. Private interment will take place at a later date.
