UTICA — A funeral service for Earl E. Layman, 86, of Utica, will be held Monday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home, with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery, with military honors provided by Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Layman died Feb. 16, 2012, at Country Court Nursing Center, Mount Vernon. He was born March 18, 1925, in Licking Co., to the late Calvin and Minnie (Harris) Layman. Mr. Layman was a lifelong farmer. He graduated from Homer High School in 1943, honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, being awarded the Bronze Star and the Victory Medal. Mr. Layman was a 72-year member of the grange, attending both the Centennial and Union granges. He enjoyed family visits and OSU basketball.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Thelma A. (Rathburn) Layman; son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Jo Layman; daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and James Farmer, Nancy and John Karam, all of Utica; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Lancia, Bret (Kelly) Layman, Bryan (Jessica) Kerr, Jamie (James) Kornokovich, Nathan (Rita) Kerr, Jenna (Luke) Simon, Katie (Ben) Goff, and Samantha Karam; great-grandchildren, Madison, Lauren and Elliot Layman, Reese Kornokovich, Jackson and Ryder Simon, Elizabeth Kerr and Rocco Lancia; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Helen Conrad and Mary Cashdollar.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Homer Fire Department, P.O. Box 8, Homer, OH 43027; or Utica Fire Department, P.O. Box 528, Utica, OH 43080.

Friends may call Sunday, Feb. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. and one hour before the service Monday, Feb. 20, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N Main St., Utica. Visit to extend condolences to the family.
