MOUNT VERNON — Alfreda Annalee Jooste, 75, of Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.

She was born June 30, 1936, in Drawdy, W.Va., to the late Walter and Bessie Adkins. After graduating at Van High School in West Virginia, Freda worked in the National Bank of Washington for 13 years. Freda married Andrew Jooste of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in Alexandria, Va., on Dec. 18, 1971.

Freda participated in evangelistic programs in Ithaca, New York, Hawaii, and twice in South Africa, where she met Andy, then an architect and as with Freda, both were active in evangelistic work for more than 50 years. She spent 28 years in South Africa before returning to assist Andy as minister at Newark Road Church of Christ until her death.

Freda was always involved in evangelism, youth work and involved with neighbors socially — loving to have visitors in her home. Her friends over the years were spread globally.

Besides her husband, Freda is survived by sisters, Wilma Giles, Lorene Hogge, Betty Cook, Sharlet Massie and Beulah Cataline, all living in the United States.

Friends may call Saturday, Feb. 25, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Newark Road Church of Christ. A service will follow beginning at 2 p.m. with Mr. Vinton Morgan officiating.

Sincere gratitude is due to the medical staff at Knox Community Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital and The Ohio State University Hospital where gracious services and therapies were administered for treatment of multiple myeloma, which she fought for 20 years. Thanks also to spiritual and moral support from many on almost every continent.
