MOUNT VERNON — Laverne Helen (Zeitner) Grubb, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away at her home Feb. 23, 2012.

She was born in Tripp, S.D., on June 10, 1923, to Christina (Tasche) and Edward Zeitner Sr. She graduated from Tripp High School in 1941. She attended college in Yankton, S.D., and later at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. She was employed as an executive secretary in Yankton, where she met and married Hoy Kenneth Grubb on Sept. 17, 1949. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon, where she served as church secretary for 12 years. She also served on the East Knox Board of Education. While raising three daughters, she served as the office manager for her husband’s business, Hoy Grubb Excavating. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, bird watching, and playing a mean game of euchre.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Edward J. Zeitner Jr.; and her husband.

She is survived by three daughters, Vickie Blubaugh and Shelley Grubb (Art Schad) of Mount Vernon, and Elena Tilton (Jeff Brown) of Columbus. She is also survived by three grandchildren, John Blubaugh of Mansfield; Andrew Hawk of Seven Fields, Pa., and Rachel Hawk (Joe Petrie) of Utica; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Silas Blubaugh; her constant companion, Eva, a devoted Papillon; and countless friends.

The family wishes to thank caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care, The Laurels and Knox County Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Friends may call today, Feb. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The service will be held Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Mark Wildermuth officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
