MOUNT VERNON — Ivan Joseph Fausnight, 88, a resident of the Ohio Eastern Star Home, formerly of Howard, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the care center.

He was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Stark County, to the late Samuel and Lola (Hershberger) Fausnight. He married Doris Marie (Cline) Fausnight July 29, 1973, who survives. He served in the Merchant Marines from March 1943 to July 1944. He was a minister in the Brethren Church for 62 years, having been ordained out of Bethany Training School in 1945. He had a very creative and inventive mind, and he enjoyed drawing sketches and doing genealogy. He especially loved his time working with church youth groups and being a counselor at summer camp.

In addition to his wife, Doris M. Fausnight of Howard, he is survived by two sons, Paul Fausnight of Mount Vernon and Joseph Fausnight Sr. of North Manchester, Ind.; six daughters, Mindy Fausnight of Mount Vernon, Jennifer Klein of Howard, Linda Knapp of Florida, Rebecca McClaflin of New London, Delora Hoffman of North Manchester, Ind., and Vesta Fausnight of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son-in-law, C.C. Angle of Howard; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Fausnight; and three brothers, Levi, David and Samuel Fausnight.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Donald Matolyak officiating. Cremation will follow, with burial at North Bend Church of the Brethren Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours are two hours prior to service time.
