MOUNT VERNON — Norma Jean Neighbarger, 85, of Cliff Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Mount Vernon, to the late Charles and Anna Elizabeth (Kreps) Ansel. Jean was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. She previously served as a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Jean belonged to the local Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and enjoyed sewing and crafting.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Neighbarger of Mount Vernon; three sons, John (Pamela) Neighbarger of Mount Vernon, William (Thea) Neighbarger of Newark and Kenneth (Karen) Neighbarger of Mount Vernon; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Joan “Jo-Jo” Neighbarger of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Neighbarger; a son, Charles Neighbarger; a great-grandson, Daniel Neighbarger; and two brothers, Alan Ansel and Arthur Ansel.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Pastor Jonathan Fettig will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
