MOUNT VERNON — Margaret Jane Butler, 76, of Mount Vernon, passed away March 1, 2012, at her residence.

She was born June 4, 1935, in Jelloway to the late Harry B. and Fern (Doup) Pealer. Margaret graduated from Central School of Practical Nursing in Cleveland and was a certified operating room technician. She retired from Knox Community Hospital after 50 years as a scrub nurse. She was a past Worthy Matron for the Order of Eastern Star and past president for the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion.

She is survived by her sister, Alice (Gilbert) Cook of Ashland; nieces and nephews, Gary John Butler, Gerald Butler, Paula Butler, Franklyn Butler, Cecilia Hunter, Karen Cook, David Cook and Karol DeMartine; special friend and caregiver, Brenda Clark of Mount Vernon.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Butler; and two brothers, Gerald and Harry William “Bill” Pealer.

A memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held March 18, at 2 p.m. at Jelloway United Methodist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Butler family.
