FORT DODGE, Kan. — Hugh McLaughlin, 90, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.

He was born June 8, 1921, in Barnesville, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Anna Robben McLaughlin. A longtime Dodge City, Kan., resident, formerly of Ohio and Colorado, he was a linotype operator and a machinist for numerous printing companies, including the High Plains Journal in Dodge City, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of St. Andrew Church, Wright and 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, Dodge City.

He served in the United States Army during WWII.

On April 25, 1945, he married Viola Reischman at Miltonsburg, Ohio. She preceded him in death Oct. 18, 2010.

Survivors include five sons, Paul (Dianne), of Wooster, John, of Yoder, Colo., Tom (Renee), of Colorado Springs, Joe (Debbie), of Montezuma and Karl (Teresa), of Colorado Springs; four daughters, Martha (Doug) Vandervort, of Lincoln, Neb., Rosemary (Frank) Pagano, of Philadelphia, Karen Worley and Linda McLaughlin, both of Colorado Springs; a sister, Mary Blanchard, of Gambier; a son-in-law, Bob Smith, of Castle Rock, Colo.; 29 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Helen Smith; two brothers, Edward and William; and a grandson, Jason McLaughlin.

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at St. Andrew Church, Wright. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Robert A. Schremmer presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Wright, with military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714.
