MOUNT VERNON — Catherine W. Seward, 84, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday evening, March 5, 2012, at The Living Center in Mount Vernon.

She was born July 26, 1927, in Dayton, daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Hays) Weaver.

Catherine was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, the United Methodist Women’s Society and the Knox Chapter 236 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was involved in Girl and Boy Scouts for 21 years and received her Wood Badge and the Silver Beaver Award.

Catherine is survived by her children, Catherine (Lawrence) Alexander of Aurora, Colo., Martin (Darlene) Seward of Ravenna, Walter (Patricia) Seward of Mount Vernon and Sara (Steve) Schorger of Newark; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Seward; daughters, Carolyn, Jo Ann and Jean Ann; and a grandson, Martin Eugene Seward.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 North Gay Street, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Region-Knox, 870 Michigan Ave., Columbus, OH 43215.
