GAMBIER — William H. “Bill” McCain, 91, of Gambier went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Scioto County, Ohio, to the late William D. and Myrtle (Southworth) McCain. Bill was employed for over 20 years for the N & W Railroad and later as an insurance agent for Peoples Life/Monumental Life. He was a member of Gideons International for over 40 years and the Pine Street First Church of God. He enjoyed woodworking and mowing his lawn. But most of all, Bill loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Charlene (Payne) McCain; his daughter, Judith (Shannon) Hundley of Gambier; three grandchildren, Philip (Christina) Locher, Kelly Coulter, Brent McCain; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Danny McCain; his brother, Parker McCain; and four sisters, Macie Rapp, Murble Conkle, Emma McCain and Gracie McCain.

Friends may call today, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Pine Street First Church of God, with Rev. Bill Fulda officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Bill will be missed by a host of friends and relatives. Everyone knew him as a kind and gentle man who loved family, friends and his God. Bill has received his reward, “Heavens Splendor.”
