MOUNT VERNON — Martha Olive Wise, 93, a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, passed away March 8, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Oct.14, 1918, in Mount Vernon, to Howard and Audrey (Needs) Proper.

Martha was a person of integrity and honesty. She enjoyed making quilts, cooking, being an avid pie baker, and playing a good practical joke on someone.

She is survived by one grandson, William Wise Jr. of California; three brothers, Pete Proper of Londonderry, James “Jim” (Joan) Proper of Dixon, Ill. and George (Betty) Proper of Millersburg; one sister, Sylvia Newton of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews, including Ron (Linda) Conkle, who made it possible for her to remain in her home; and several meaningful friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linden “Zeke” Wise in 1993; her only child, William Wise, in 1994; sister, Alice Conkle Frost; brother, Howard Virgil Proper; sister-in law, Daisy Proper; and seven brothers-in-laws, Kenneth, Hoy, Fred, Earl, Charles, Paul, and Walter Wise.

Friends may call Sunday at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, from 2 to 4 p.m., where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Springer officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
