FREDERICKTOWN — After a courageous battle with MRSA, Raymond D. Metzger of Fredericktown passed away March 11, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving mother and three sisters.

His family addressed him as Dale and his friends as Ray. Dale leaves behind his mother, E. Jane Metzger; sons, Raymond Jr. and David; grandsons, Zachery, Scott and Devin; sisters, Joyce Thompson, Kathy (Samuel) Lewis, Brenda Metzger; numerous nieces and nephews; his min pins, Jesse and Zelda; and his Cub Cadet.

His father, Raymond J. Metzger, preceded him in death.

Dale was born at White Cross Hospital in Columbus on Sept. 3, 1948, and shared his birthday with his father. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1966 and then graduated with honors from South Plains College in Lubbock, Texas, with an ASE Certified Mechanics degree in 1996.

Dale enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and served with pride and dedication until his retirement with honorable discharge in 1991. He achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant and had top-secret clearance for the duties he proudly performed for his country. Dale received the following medals from the Air Force: Commendation, Achievement, Outstanding Unit, Good Conduct, The National Defense, and numerous awards and certifications. He was a remarkable cook and baker, and could fix anything. Dale loved the United States, the American flag, his Harley Davidson bikes, Cub Cadet lawn tractors and a good party.

There will be no calling hours. Private family burial will be held in Sunbury Memorial Park. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Metzger family.
