HOWARD — Bernice Kay Keirns, 62, of Howard, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 1, 1950, in Mount Vernon to Arthur and Cora (Ball) Bush.

Bernice is survived by her husband of 42 years, Aaron Keirns; her four children, Adam (Kriste) Keirns of Newark, Tracy (Casey) Beckett of Howard, Jesse (Jessica) Keirns of Mount Vernon and Nathan (Amber) Keirns of Howard; her sister, Beverly (Roy) Cooper of St. Louisville; five grandchildren, Elisa and Ethan Beckett, Siaira Keirns, Aiden and Dylan Keirns; her co-worker and niece, Wendy Flack; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

A beloved wife and mother, Bernice also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Her bright smile, loving nature and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., with Chaplain Terry McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Bernice’s name to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
