BELLVILLE — Ted L. Hickerson, 75, of Bellville passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2012, in Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Ted was born Oct. 27, 1936, to Everett and Grace Fern (Hoover) Hickerson. He grew up in Mount Vernon, and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. During school he worked as a bicycle mechanic at Doc Fix-its, A&P Supermarket and as a bus boy at The Alcove. He grew strawberries in the family garden and his sister, June, marketed them where she worked. After school he started working as an errand boy at First-Knox Bank and ended his banking career of 30 years in charge of consumer loans at Richland Bank.
For more than 32 years, Ted had a love and a knack for growing fruit — peaches, apples, blueberries and especially strawberries — on his family farm, Hickersone’s Strawberry Farm.
Ted always had a great interest in mechanics and cars. He ran a repair garage on Bell Street and rebuilt wrecked cars.
A man of faith, Ted always tried to do what was best for the other person.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjean (Kunkel) Hickerson; son, Nathan (Carlene) Hickerson of Bellville; five granddaughters, Ellen and her fiancé Tyler Fox, Anna, Oliva, Abi and Iona; brother, William (Christine) Hickerson; and a sister, June Hickerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian Smith, Ruth Patterson and Mildred Mansel.
Friends may call Thursday, March 29, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home; graveside service will follow in Bellville Cemetery. Pastor Ken Kinley will officiate.
