MOUNT VERNON — Iris J. McCollum, 78, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
Iris was born March 28, 1934, in Mount Vernon, to Lewis and Leona (Weaver) McMillan and had spent her lifetime in Mount Vernon. She was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and had worked at Rudin’s Department Store and Montgomery Wards, both in Mount Vernon.
Iris was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her husband, Wilburt McCollum, whom she married Nov. 26, 1954; her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Robert Brown, Connie Durbin and Robia and Brad Kaylor; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vivian McMillan; and her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Larry Snively. Deceased are her sister, Virginia Claypool; her brothers, the Rev. Glenn McMillan and the Rev. R. Paul McMillan; and her son-in-law, Ronald Durbin Jr.
Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rick Tincher officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
