MOUNT VERNON — Lena Marie Roberts, 72, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday morning, April 1, 2012, at Knox Community Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Mount Vernon, daughter of the late Harry B. Roberts and Ruby (Earnest) Roberts Burke. Lena was a 1958 graduate of Fredericktown High School. After graduation, Lena became a hairstylist and moved to Dallas, Texas. When Lena moved back to Ohio, she returned to the family farm on Green Valley Road and worked for the Cutting Edge Salon in Mansfield for almost 24 years. She was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon. In her early years on the farm, Lena showed beef cattle in 4-H and was in Mrs. Bouton’s Sewing Club. Lena will be missed by her family and friends in the local area and in Dallas and Detroit.
Lena is survived by her sister, Janet (Calvin) Hulse of Mount Vernon; nieces and nephews, Carlena Hulse, Clint (Kristina) Hulse, Carter Hulse, Braden Hulse, Sophia Hulse, Curtis (Aimee) Hulse, Austin Hulse, Ashlee Hulse, Brent (Bonnie) Gaddis, Brandon Gaddis, Megan Gaddis, Jeff (Cheryl) Gaddis, Jessica Gaddis and Anna Gaddis; and her companions, Snickers and Camanchee.
In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arthur G. Burke; and a sister, Carole A. Gaddis.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gerald Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Food for the Hungry, the Knox County Humane Society, the Paralyzed Veterans or Hospice of Knox County in Lena’s memory.
