MOUNT VERNON — Mary D. Stansell, 91, of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday afternoon, April 5, 2012, at Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon.

She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Oakwood, daughter of the late Harvey and Florence (Bremberger) Dressler. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Warren Stansell Sr.

Mary was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. She was involved with the Mount Vernon School Board for a number of years. Mary was a volunteer at Knox Community Hospital, a Girl Scout Leader, and was active in the League of Women Voters. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and in her younger years, knitting, sewing and quilting.

Mary is survived by her children, Harvey (Malena) Stansell of Fairfield, John Warren (Dorie) Stansell Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and Mary Christine Stansell of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Patrick, Alex, Rob, Adam and Toby Stansell, and James and Hanna Wilentz.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary will held Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Jonathan Fettig officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
