MOUNT VERNON — John E. Clark, 89, passed away peacefully at home April 8, 2012. He was a beloved father and grandfather and passed from this earthly plane to be with his beloved Polly.
John was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to Charles H. and Bernice (Pettit) Clark. A graduate of Mount Vernon High School, he served in World War II in France and England in the Army Air Corps with the 79th Troop Carrier Squadron in the 436th Group in communications. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 4027 and a Past Post Commander as well as serving in various other offices. John’s career began at Timkin and Shellmar before working for Continental Can, which he retired from after 34 years in packaging and new product development and customer technical support countrywide.
He was married to Polly (Mickley) for 60 years. Known for his love of woodworking, he built hundreds of pieces of furniture for family and friends over the years. John was a well-known sight at local auctions where he worked for Kenny Love and Red Shaw. Always ready with his trusty truck to lend a hand, he will be sadly missed. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and very proud that three of his sons became Eagle Scouts. John became an Honor Flight member in 2011.
