NEWARK — A service to celebrate the life of Wendell E. Combs Sr. will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, with the Revs. Richard Humphrey and Les Crosswell presiding. Interment will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Combs, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born Feb. 10, 1939, and lived with his loving parents, Virgil and Alberta (Goodman) Combs, in Christian, W.Va. He was a 1958 graduate of Man High School. He worked at Roper for 14 1/2 years and for TRW for 27 years. He attended Community Wesleyan Church. He was married to Abbie for 51 years, celebrating their “50th” in 2011. He was a loving husband, father and a devoted grandfather. It was a tradition of his to meet with his friends at any social restaurant on Monday for lunch.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Abbie (Looker) Combs; children. Wendell (Jodi) Combs Jr. of Mount Vernon, Robin (Jeff) Hanlon of Newark, Gregory (Dana) Combs of Maumee and Wendi (Tracy) Mick of Utica; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, an infant sister, Aileen, preceded Wendell in death.

The family suggests memorial gifts, in Wendell’s name, to either Community Wesleyan Church or Hospice of Central Ohio.
