GAMBIER — Charles C. Engle, 86, of Gambier, passed away Friday morning, April 13, 2012, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Ludlow and Helen (Henwood) Engle.

Charles was a member and an Elder of the Grove Church of Christ near Gambier. He was also a member of the Ohio Lodge 199 of the F. & A.M in Bladensburg, the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and the Harrison Grange since 1944. Charles served on the former Gambier School Board, the Regional Planning Committee and the Harrison Township Zoning Committee. He was also a Harrison Township Trustee from 1968 to 1973.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Jacobine O. (Smith) Engle; son, David (Fran) Engle of Macedonia; daughter, Diane (Jim) Davis of Sharon Center; and grandchildren, Jason (Holly), Michael and Erik Davis and Emily Engle.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grove Church of Christ, 7740 Grove Church Road, Gambier, with Minister Victor Slutz officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.
