MARENGO — Richard E. “Dick” Swank, 73, of Marengo, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born June 26, 1938, in Mount Vernon, to the late Leo and Irene (Garno) Swank. Richard retired in 2001 after 41 years of employment with Weyerhaeuser in Mount Vernon. He also co-owned and operated Buckeye Culvert in Mount Vernon. Richard was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a founding member of Pacemakers and enjoyed taking care of his vegetable garden and making wine. Richard was always offering a helping hand to people in need and he loved spending quality time with his grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Lloyd) Swank, whom he married April 1, 1966; a son, Brian (Loraine) Swank of Westerville; a daughter, Melissa (Michael) Miller of Marengo; four grandchildren, Morgan Swank, Alexa Swank, Dustin Miller and Austin Miller; a brother, Dan (Karen) Swank of Hoffman, Texas; a sister, Carol Worth of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Amy Swank; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gail (Laura) Lloyd, Stanley (Mary) Lloyd and Barbara White; beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Jim White and Joe Worth; father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Helen Lloyd.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond will be presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the St. Vincent de Paul School, 206 E. Chestnut St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
