MOUNT VERNON — Alice R. McDonald, 98, of Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 14, 1913, in Mount Vernon, to the late Walter and Amy (Waters) Paazig. Alice retired from the Mount Vernon City Schools. Alice was a faithful member of the Newark Road Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and she always enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable garden.

She is survived by her children, Harold (Dolores) McDonald of Newark, Charles (Carol) McDonald of Williston, S.C., and Maxine (Steve) Vaden of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Monica Morehead, Teresa Luellen, Michael McDonald, Linda McDonald and Brian McDonald; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and two stepgrandchildren, Sherry Redman and Donny Trickle.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Evert McDonald; two grandsons, Lowell McDonald and Tommy McDonald; and a sister, Grace Cooper.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Newark Road Church of Christ. Mr. Russell Howard will be officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
