MOUNT VERNON — Retha Barton, 84, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at Country Court Nursing Center.

She was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Mount Vernon, and was the daughter of the late Leroy and Lena (Sesser) Fish. Retha was a former member of the First Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, John Barton of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Peggy (John) Curtis of Mount Vernon, Connie (Rick) Gaumer of Gambier and Susie Griffith of Reynoldsburg; a sister, Ruth (Charles) Doup of Butler; four grandchildren, Lee (Tyler) Hitzfield, Richie Gaumer, John Curtis, Mary Ann (Bill) Foster; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Adriana Long.

Retha was preceded in death by her husband, John Fred Barton, in 2006; and a brother, Wilmer Fish.

Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
