GAMBIER — Jacob E. Slabaugh, 69, of 22809 Deal Road, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 2, 1943, in Wayne County, to the late Emanuel A. and Mary (Hershberger) Slabaugh. He married Naomi (Hershberger) Slabaugh on Oct. 12, 1965, who survives. He had made his home in Gambier for the past 22 years, and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

In addition to his wife, surviving are 10 children, Malinda (Eli Jr.) Hershberger of Long Prairie, Minn., Emanuel J. (Delila) Slabaugh of Utica, Anna (Menno) Hershberger of Walhonding, Joseph J. (Margeret) Slabaugh of St. Louisville, Mary (Enos) Swartzentruber of Long Prairie, Minn., Eli J. (Leah) Slabaugh of Mount Vernon, Rebecca (Andy) Hershberger of Howard, Christ Slabaugh of Gambier, Sammie (Annie) Slabaugh of Mount Vernon and Jacob Jr. (Mary) Slabaugh of Gambier; 47 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Chriss Slabaugh of no permanent home, Andrew E. Slabaugh of Chaseburg, Wis., and Daniel E. Slabaugh of Dalton; three sisters, Magdalena (Sam J.) Hershberger of Navarre, Anna (Abe) Yoder of Spencer and Ada (Harvey) Miller of Utica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lovina and Emma; two daughters, Lydiann and a stillborn daughter; and two grandsons.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the residence, 22809 Deal Road, Gambier, with Bishop Andy P. Swartzentruber officiating. Burial will follow there in the Slabaugh Cemetery.
