MOUNT VERNON — Jeffery Lynn Bird, 58, of East Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 25, 1953, in Mount Vernon, to the late Verner and Donna (Swadner) Bird. Jeff proudly served in U.S. Army from 1972 to 1976, and later retired after 23 years of employment with TRW in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the American Legion in Mount Vernon and loved recording movies, reading books and had an extensive collection of clocks. Most important to Jeff was the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Gibson of Mount Vernon; a son, Charles (Angie) Giehl of Orient, Ohio; five grandchildren, Loralei Siobhan Gibson, Daughtry Nathaniel Jeffery Gibson, Emmett Jasper Gibson, Christopher Joseph Giehl, Trevor Allen Giehl; and the mother of his children, Linda Knuckles.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Bird; and a sister, Becky Reams.

The family will observe a private service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Jeffery Lynn Bird.
