MOUNT VERNON — JoAnn Walker, 81, of Mount Vernon passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday morning, May 13, 2012.

She was born May 20, 1930, in Columbus, daughter of the late Everett Deacon and Margaret Angeline (Yarrington) Haynes. JoAnn worked at AEP for 35 years. After retirement, she taught painting. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. JoAnn was a Methodist by faith.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jo (Walker) Qualls of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Martin and Adam Qualls, Liz McCrory and Amy Becerril; 10 great-grandchildren; best friend, Bill Shambaugh; sisters, June Huff and Jean Jones of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. JoAnn will be missed by too many people to list.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Walker, in 1998; and brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Haynes.

The family will have a graveside service Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Mausoleum at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Pastor Terry McLaughlin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 in JoAnn’s memory.
