MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie E. Reed, 90, of North Main Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Country Court Nursing Center.
She was born April 18, 1922, in West Allis, Wis., the daughter of Jacob Kraemer and Amelia (Streich) Kraemer. After her school years, she worked for Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Co. On Oct. 26, 1946, Marjorie married Nelson Reed in West Allis, Wis. In 1951, they moved to Mount Vernon. She was a homemaker, a volunteer for the Girl Scouts, an avid reader, and a longtime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Marjorie also participated in and put up with her husband’s 30 years of sailing on the Great Lakes.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, June Diehl; three brothers, Jack, Robert and Donald Kraemer (Robert and Donald were soldiers killed in World War II); and a niece, Gail Mueller of Milwaukee.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Reed; a son, Edward Reed of Evanston, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Reed; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Abigail Reed; nieces, Shirley Czysh and Claudia Chernow; and a nephew, Jack Diehl.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 1, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
