MOUNT VERNON — Derle S. Seavolt Sr., 79, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday morning, May 23, 2012, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Ralph and Marion (Finger) Seavolt. Derle retired from the Ohio Laborers Union in Mansfield and was an Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW Post 4027, the AMVETS Post 95, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 824. Derle was a Methodist by faith.

Derle is survived by his son, Derle Scott (Amy Snell) Seavolt II of Danville; daughters, Tereasa (Rex) Talbott, Cindy (Douglas) Talbott, Jenny (John) Hager, Machael (Randy) Wilhelm and Pam (Chuck Edmister) Seavolt, all of Mount Vernon; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; brothers, John R. (Janis) Seavolt of Mount Vernon and David (Sue) Seavolt of Granville; sisters, Virginia Hagans of Kentucky and Judy (Charlie) Hunnicut of Mount Vernon; and son-in-law, Steve Davis.

In addition to his parents, Derle was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma L. (Hamilton) Seavolt; a daughter, Kathleen Davis; grandson, Steve Davis; brothers, Gene and Donald Seavolt; a sister, Beatrice Horlacher; and canine companions, Pride 1 and Pride 2.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Wade Wolfe officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
