CARDINGTON — Marcella T. Nicholson, 85, of Cardington, died Tuesday evening, May 22, 2012, surrounded by her family at her home.

She was born July 18, 1926, in Boone County, W.Va., to the late William Thomas and Tressie (Miller) Perdue. She was a homemaker and had resided in the Cardington area since 1968, coming from Columbus. She was a member of Christ the King Community Church, 504th Military Police Auxiliary, and a volunteer with the American Legion Post 710 Auxiliary.

Marcella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother who put the needs of others ahead of her own doing without things for herself to provide for her children. She enjoyed bowling, stock car races, vegetable and flower gardening. Marcella was a great cook with some of her specialties being chicken and dumplings, apple cobbler and corn bread. Marcella took great pride in cooking for her family and having family dinners for special occasions and holidays.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Marion Ray Nicholson, whom she married July 7, 1965; sons, Marion Edward (Nancy) Nicholson of Marengo, Dallas (Cynthia) Kinder Jr. of Cardington; daughters, Marzetta (Tommy) Chafin of Cardington, Belinda (Brian) Tobias of West Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by grandson, Dallas “Scott” Kinder III; brothers, Cardell, Jennings, Bill Perdue; sisters, Barbara Grass, Lucille Carroll, Marie Goldsberry, Brookie Grubb.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Community Church, 15598 McClelland Road, Fredericktown, with Pastor Lucian Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
