ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Richard D. “Denny” Denton, 71 died May 22, 2012, at his home in Orange Beach, Ala.
He was born Aug. 20, 1940, to the late Virgil and Marguerite (Heacock) Denton of Cardington. Denny, a 1958 graduate of Cardington High School, served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was a car salesman for the majority of his life.
On Nov. 25, 1978, Denny married his wife, Sharon Marcine Denton, who preceded him in death.
Denny was an avid college basketball and football fan, always supporting the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed camping at the Rustic Knolls Campground in Mount Vernon. As a youth he was active in 4-H and FFA, showing sheep and hogs at county and state fairs. He carried that love for county fairs throughout his life with a tradition of attending the Morrow County Fair with his family every year on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
Denny received many awards throughout his life, some of which include: Mark of Excellence, Legion of Leaders, Pinnacle Award for outstanding customer satisfaction, and the Chevrolet Passenger Car/Truck Leadership.
Denny is survived by five children, Sabrina (Ross) Conter of Pataskala, Doug (Barb) Denton of Mentor, Greg (Silvana) Denton of Miami, Fla., Craig Davis of Granville, Ill., and Scott Denton of Park City, Utah; one sister, Karen (Russ) Stephens of Cardington; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington, where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
