MOUNT VERNON — Joyce E. Swingle, 92, of East Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Autumn Health Care in Mount Vernon.
She was born Feb. 29, 1920 in Mount Vernon, to the late Roy and Olive (Harden) Temple. Joyce previously worked for United Telephone in Mount Vernon and Citizen Building and Loan. She was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile at Knox Community Hospital, served on the local voting polls and volunteered at many area churches. Joyce was a member of the Beulah United Methodist Women’s and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Tammy) Swingle of Mount Vernon; and a grandson, Scott (Carrie) Swingle of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher C. Swingle.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
