MOUNT VERNON — Leonard G. Dofflemyer, 89, of Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.
He was born Dec. 16, 1922, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late Ellis and Nellie (Carter) Dofflemyer. Leonard retired after 39-plus years as a car inspector with the B&O Railroad. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Clarksburg, W.Va. Leonard enjoyed singing and playing country music on his guitar for family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Nella Thurman of Mount Vernon; a grandson, Robert (Cheryl) Schetzel of Howard; two great-grandchildren, Alicia Schetzel and Marie Quinn; special friends, Jim Donaldson and Tim (Diana) Smith.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Dofflemyer; and three brothers, Charles, Raymond and Kenneth Dofflemyer.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Bridgeport Cemetery in Clarksburg, W.Va. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Leonard G. Dofflemyer.
