BELLVILLE — Robert L. “Bob” Dudgeon, 67, of Toms Road, Bellville, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness.
Bob was born May 10, 1945, in Mount Vernon to Ralph Dudgeon and Alice (McClelland) Dudgeon. He was a 1963 graduate of Bellville High School and served in the U.S. Army from September 1965 to September 1967. Bob had maintained a farm near Ankenytown for many years and was a sales representative for Vermeer Ag Equipment for 37 years, many of those as a “Master Dealer.” Bob had served as a Berlin Township Trustee for 26 years and was a member of Berlin Grange for 43 years.
He had served on the executive board of Knox County Emergency Management. Bob served on the Knox County Fair Junior Sales Committee, and was a member of the board of the Knox County Cattleman’s Association, receiving Knox County Cattleman of the year in 2001. Bob was awarded the “Luke B. Biggs” Memorial Award by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club in 2011. His family had hosted the Heart of Ohio Tours in 1992 and 2003, and was Ohio State University “Fertibull” Test Farm Cooperator 1974 to 1980. Bob and his wife had served as ushers at the Ohio State University Football games since 2003. Bob was an active member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, where he worked in the baby nursery for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Louise (Alexander) Dudgeon, whom he married Oct. 21, 1967; sons, Michael Dudgeon and Timothy Dudgeon, and daughter, Jayne (Mark) Maxwell, all of Bellville; three stepgrandchildren; his brother, Norman Dudgeon of Ashville, N.C.; and his sisters, Margaret Cooper of Lucas, Marilyn (Phillip) Johnson of Mansfield and Bonnie Haegele of Westerville.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph Dudgeon Jr.; and sisters, Mary Alice Forbes and Nancy Hite.
Friends may call Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, 123 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, where funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Keith Bohley officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow at Owl Creek Cemetery at Ankenytown.
