MOUNT VERNON — Karen S. Ballengee, 67, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Karen was born Sept. 7, 1944, in Knox County, was a graduate of Fredericktown High School, and had spent her lifetime in the Knox County area. She was a nurse and had been employed at the Knox County Health Department in Mount Vernon. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and working in her garden. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis Ballengee Jr.; sons, Robin Ballengee and Larry (Christina) Ballengee, both of Mount Vernon, and Jason (Rachel) Ballengee of Centerburg; daughter, Robin Elaine Ballengee of Mount Vernon; her mother, Hattie (Parsons) Hamon of Fredericktown; 11 grandchildren; her brother, Larry (Bernadette) Hamon of Fredericktown; and sisters, Beverly Schmeichel of Fredericktown, Sharon Mooney of Mount Vernon and Garnet Shade of Fredericktown.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Oshel Hamon.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon. Friends may call at the church one hour before the funeral service. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
